Applying Reflective Thinking
Put simply, we learn from reflecting on our experiences and feelings, and ultimately, our values and beliefs. The reflective mind is one that thinks beyond the obvious, beyond face-value; it allows for the kind of thinking that explores ideas and issues, raises questions, problem solves, considers personal and others’ perspectives, analyses, and makes considered judgements. If true learning is directly connected to reflective thinking, then how do we acknowledge and plan for this intentionally? The provision of regular opportunities for reflective thinking values the learner and the learner’s role in the learning process. ‘Applying Reflective Thinking’ is a learning space with practical application. The teacher is invited to develop greater skills in facilitating reflective thinking in the classroom by exploring ways that reflective thinking can be fostered and ways that various reflective thinking models, approaches and strategies can be embedded within units of work . Given that reflective thinking plays such a crucial role in the process of learning itself, it has application across all curriculum areas and in the living of life each day. Beyond the learning space, one hour of one-to-one coaching focused entirely on your work is included.
