Framing Deep Understandings
We can move through the world armed with an array of facts, figures and minutiae, or we can operate at higher levels and gain deeper meaning from the world we encounter through information and experiences. An unknown sage once said, Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people. Some of the greatest gifts we can give our students for their future are the abilities to think (philosophically, creatively, ethically, caringly, critically,…), to make connections, to question and to view their world from a range of perspectives. Deep understandings fit the bill. Deep understandings require more than filing away or memorising pieces of discrete information. To come to a deep understanding means that a journey involving a vast number of high level thinking skills, including problem solving, has taken place. One hour of one-to-one coaching focused entirely on work generated by this learning space is included.
